It sounds similar to the issue covered here: PLC using Logix Driver goes "Idle"
There are a few things you can try to mitigate the issue. One thing I found to help was to increase the number of concurrent requests for the device (in the settings for the device connection). Ultimately, upgrading to 8.0.17 includes a fix for the issue discussed in the thread.
