Anybody have any tips? Looks like my Airlink isn’t receiving sms back from phones, ignition sends the texts fine but I’m not able to acknowledge alarms, Sierra wireless was no help

Were you able to figure it out?
Trying to purchase RV55 and came across this post.
Also not sure RV55 was tested by IA

Have you run through the [RV50 setup guide](https://support.inductiveautomation.com/hc/en-us/articles/360047613111-Sierra-Wireless-AirLink-RV50-Setup-Guide)? I’ve only used the RV50x but i suspect the RV55 will be similar. There are configurations within the Airlink that point incoming messages back to the Ignition gateway (step 6 in the guide). Don’t forget to make sure the necessary ports are open too.

As a sanity check, have you also enabled two-way in the notification profile?

Lastly, may want to verify that the Airlink is actually receiving your texts. On the Airlink webpage, you can see this in the SMS section of the services tab.

Yeah I’ve gone through the guide, my issue doesn’t seem to be on the ignition end and Airlink wasn’t any help, I’m not receiving text on the Airlink at all, so I’m looking here for any help, it’s sending texts just fine

Alright, that narrows it down at least! I’m definitely not the most knowledgeable about cell networks, but in your situation I’d probably do two things: 1) try a different provider, and 2) get in touch with your provider to get their thoughts. Maybe you have some unusual send-only plan? Not sure if that’s a thing, really just spitballing.

If neither of those pan out, then it could still be something on the Airlink side, but I’d have no idea what.

Hi @tre99ahs,

Have you tried this?

or this

> Hi, I have an Airlink GX400 and I know the GX400 isn’t specifically covered for Ignition and the LS300 is. I have a GX400 setup and sending SMS messages for Alarms by following the same setup as the LS300. Just wondering how different the models are for receiving sms? As I can’t seem to acknowledge alarms via sms when two way is enabled in the alarm notification. I can see the incoming sms acknowledgment on the GX400 but Ignition doesn’t seem to be picking it up I have a pc on a fixed ip of…

Update: I just received the RV55 device and was able to get it to work. I can acknowledge alarms by replying to the text messages with the ports (UDP) enabled and country code added.

What was your solution for getting the RV55 to acknowledge alarms? I can text back the the RV55 and see it as last incoming text but it will not acknowledge them.

Hi @tre99ahs ,
I don’t have the answer to you to your question but I was wondering if you could help me setup my RV55 and connect to ignition as I am not able to send SMS using ignition right now and yes, I did go through the Setup guide.

Check that the subnet of the Airlink and Ignition gateway are the same. The ack is extremely particular, even if the SMS are being sent it does not indicate that all network configuration is correct to get the ack from the Airlink to the gateway.

Hi @Alex_Guyer1 ,
Yes, they are the same. If you have an RV55 which is working, can you please share me the template of your ACEmanager (you can download it from the ACEmanager).
Thank you,

I have an LX40 working rather than the RV55 but presumably similar.

WAN/Cellular tab → Ethernet / Static config → Set your modems IP / subnet

LAN tab → Ethernet → set it again

Services tab → SMS → Local host interface → Set your Ignition server IP and 17342/17341

Then on your Ignition server firewall make sure you open UDP ports 17342 / 17341

Then add it as a device in the Ignition gateway with the correct IP & default ports. Enable two-way and preferably numeric only ack.

I can not share the configuration details. I did find the solution was to plug in the Airlink through a different Network switch. The root of the problem is unknown. No configurations, rules, Port blocking, or other filters were in place.

When plugged into Switch A the SMS messaged would send but not acknowledge.

When plugged into Switch B the SMS messages would send and acknowledge. No other changes need what so ever.

That’s pretty typical crap with any of the sierra modems, precisely why I won’t ever use them.
