# Bug - changing reference path does not update tag historian value

Ignition 8.1.0  
Changing the path of a reference tag **does** change the tag value. But the **historian is not updated**.

The Ignition historian tags will not update until the new referenced tag has been changed.

Is there any way to force the tag to update in the historian?

This can be “temporary” solved by using a loop back connection to the OPC UA server.

Not ideal but at least historian gets updated with the correct value.

OPC tag -\> reference tag -\> OPC UA loopback -\> OPC tag
