# Can i change computer name after installing ignition?

hi  
Can you please advise if i can change computer name after ignition gateway has already been installed? No project or anything has been configured yet - just fresh gateway running.

The gateway name is preset to the computer name when installing, but can be freely changed afterwards. The computer name is not otherwise used by Ignition. It might be used by your local DNS system for clients to locate your gateway.
