Is there a way to make it so that components with visibility bindings show up independent of the online state when I go offline to work on them? When I add the visibility binding, if the online value sets the component to be invisible, then it gets tedious to work on that component going forward.

Thanks,

Greg

Let me make sure I understand this correctly, you want to work on a component that might be invisible to the binding it has with a tag offline, right? and by working on I assume you mean making changes to the component and stuff like that, correct or not, explain some more please. Thank you

If you are offline that means you are not connected to the tag so why don’t you just click on the visibility box under “Property Editor” of the component and enable it while you are working on it. you just have to make sure you put it back to the state it was before you started working on it and when you are done with doing whatever you need to do with the component and save it. again if i’m misunderstanding your question please correct me.

That looks like an option, the main issue I have with that approach is when it’s invisible and I click where it is on the display, it doesn’t select the object, so I have to search through the Project browser to find the object, then make it visible. Also, it would be nice to be able to save that state (ie remember the offline state), so every time I go offline, it would go back to being visible and I wouldn’t have to find the object again and make it visible to work on it.

Minor issue here…in general, the software works really well…I’m on my first project with it and like what I’m seeing so far.

Greg

On the designer toolbar, under View/Spotlights, select “Invisible”, this will put a purple outline around invisible objects, this makes them easier to find and select.

Chris,

Doh…might have spoke a minute too soon. With the spotlight, I can see where they are, but when I click on them, it still doesn’t select the object. So I still need to use the project browser and remembenr the name of the object. Is that maybe a bug?

Looks like there already is a thread in the bug/issues forum and this behavior is by design due to complaints by other users of selectable invisible controls interfering during design. So it really is a preference thing I guess.

Actually using the mouse to draw a window around the object works to select it from the Designer window…so issue fully solved for me now…sorry for all the “debug in progress” posts.

Greg

It may be useful for you to know (if you don’t already) that as in most other drawing type packages, the designer select works differently depending if you are dragging you pointer left to right or right to left.
Right to Left: you have to cover the entire object to be selected.
Left to Right: if any part of the object is covered it becomes selected.

try it out.
