# Connection to google smtp email server wont work

I am trying to setup a simple SMTP profile. I have tried a few times before and I have never got this to work. I created a new google account and want to use that as my way of sending out emails, alarms, etc.

I then went to do the test email and got the following:

The from section included the new google email address I created

The to section included my work email address

I looked up the google smtp hostname and port and put that in here.

What am I missing? Do I have to do anything within the google account? Do I have to open up any ports?

Not sure if you are using one or not, but make sure you are using an [App Specific Password](https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en).

That did it! Once you create the App Specific Password and use that in the SMTP profile everything worked...thanks!
