On a previous project, I generated a few custom svg images and uploaded them using the image management tool.

I don't have access to the original files any more, but I do have access to a gateway backup from that project. I have restored the gateway backup onto a temporary VM - how can I extract the images from there, and get them onto another gateway? [This post](https://forum.inductiveautomation.com/t/image-management-export/5825) suggested that I can just select Export Project Resources and check the box for images, but I can't see any such box in the export dialog.

They aren't project resources. If you dig around in the `config.idb` from the backup using an external SQLite tool, you should find them stored as blobs.

The other hack is to run the application, screen-grab, crop and save.

Much easier than digging for blobs!

in the designer, Tools-\>Image management you have a save to local disk

If the application is in perspective (may be not even be required), you can also get it from a browser using a direct URL: [https://gatewayip/system/images/imagemanagementsubfolder/image.svg](https://gatewayip/system/images/imagemanagementsubfolder/image.svg)

resources are also in a subfolder {Ignition folder}/data/projects/.resources but file names are not great so you will need to open every file there to find the one you want

Perspective isn't required. This is probably the way to go unless you have hundreds of images.

At some point, I'd like to add support for this to Kindling: [https://github.com/paul-griffith/kindling/issues/58](https://github.com/paul-griffith/kindling/issues/58)

Staring me in the face the whole time! Thanks a lot, that's much easier than digging for blobs or _shudder_ taking screenshots

Sorry for repeating the question.
I need to move images from image management to an empty image management on a new server.
I already did the project export/import. Obviously, the images on the newly imported project on the new server are broken.

How do I move this images as a bulk? into the new server?

Edit:
False Alarm:
I see that I can download/upload in bulk via image management, my bad.

As of Ignition 8.3, images are stored under:

`<Ignition Installation Root>/data/config/resources/core/ignition/images`

This folder contains a folder for each image, each folder is named after the image. Alongside the original image, the folder also contains a configuration json file with image metadata.

I have images stored in sub-folders. When I click on the top level folder and select Save image, all of the files and folders are saved but they are all in the one folder I selected to save to. They lose their folder structure. In order to upload these into a new gateway to work with my project, I then have to manually create the folder structure and know which images to upload to which folder. It seems like there should an easier way. We are starting to run into this issue more and more as we are integrating our projects into existing customer gateways.

What version of Ignition are you using, and have you reported this issue to support?

I am using 8.3.3. I have not reported it as I wasn’t sure if this was a bug or the way it was supposed to work.

Thanks for the report; I saw what the issue was and attached it to another in-progress fix for a different issue in the image management tool. Won't be fixed any earlier than 8.3.5, and that's not a guarantee, but we'll get it fixed.

In the meantime, you could go to the gateway filesystem as mentioned by @alexander.yauchler above your post, and copy images from there between gateways. It's not as convenient, but will keep the file structure.
