[FEATURE] Badge authentication

Hi,
I am currently using the b2019021902 build.
I need to set up an authentication system via Badge in Perspective.
In Ignition 8, I usually use an IdP wrapped to an AD user source profile.
How can I implement now a custom authentication through a Badge?

Thank you so much.
Andrea

Hi -

Could you tell me more about your use case?
What kind of badges are you using?
Is the badge intended to uniquely identify an individual? Or will this badge be shared?
Is it intended as a single form of authentication or a second factor?
Is the IdP you are using Ignition or is it a third party using OpenID Connect?
If it is a third party - does your IdP support badge-based authentication?

Ignition does not have first class support for badge-based authentication but we do intend to improve support for this - we just need more information and use cases.

Hi,
thank you for your reply.
I answer to your questions:
Is the badge intended to uniquely identify an individual? Or will this badge be shared?
The company badge is intended to uniquely identify an individual, through a employee id.
Is it intended as a single form of authentication or a second factor?
It is a single form of authentication.
Is the IdP you are using Ignition or is it a third party using OpenID Connect?
So far, we are using an Ignition IdP linked to the Active Directory user profile.

We need it for an industrial application in the next few months. Let us know about the next improvements.

Best,
Andrea

Dear all,
any update about this feature?

Thank you.

Hi @andrea.morando -

Since this is such a complex feature and we do not know how each customer will use badges in Ignition, we put together a user survey to better understand how to design and implement first class badge support in Ignition 8. Could you help us out and fill out the survey when you have a chance?
