I have been modifying the variables.css files for each theme in perspective to add more colors to the themes than just the default.

However, the variables.css file gets ‘reset’ to the default every once in a while (at 1:00 am, when none of our engineers are developing). All of my changes get lost and my perspective session looks terrible because color variables aren’t defined anymore.

Any ideas why this might be happening/how we can fix this?

FYI, I am using this approach because I found it in the Ignition Manual:

That timing is extremely suspicious. Can you replicate the same behavior if you restore your .gwbk on a local development machine? Is it possible your IT group is restoring files/taking a VM snapshot/etc at 1 every night?

I will dig into that avenue. As far as you know, modifying the variables.css file is the right approach to add more color variables to themes?

I just found an old forum post about 8.0.13 discouraging the modification of default themes.

> Yes. A lot of users approached Perspective Styles form the beginning as a way to define broad-scope settings across components because Perspective themes were not fully developed and fleshed-out. This approach worked to move users along, but from a maintenance and adaptability perspective, this is the wrong approach. Style settings and colors which are intended to be used throughout the project should be applied through a project’s theme, and Perspective Style Classes should be used in instanc…

As far as I know, yes, though I’m far from an expert on Perspective 🙂
The documentation seems to agree with us:

Ok. Thank you. I will see what our IT group says.
