# Importing Idp definition from 8.1 failing without error code

Importing an Idp into 8.3 that was exported from 8.1 results in an error "Config is required for resource creation". I'd think that importing resent formats should work, even if new format might not be backwards compatible.  
Apart from the import error itself, the dialog also behaves a bit strange. After the file is selected the file name is displayed for a while but is then suddenly removed.

Hi Rickard! Thanks for downloading 8.3 beta! Importing 8.1 IdPs into an 8.3 Gateway is currently unsupported at this time.

Yes, we're also aware of this odd little UI behavior. This is not likely to get fixed for release (targeted for 8.3.1) because it doesn't prevent the upload process from completing successfully.

We might be able to do this down the road, but the import validation logic here was in the front-end in 8.1 and we would need to move it to the back-end in 8.3 to make this work. We can do it, but not by release. It wasn't given a high priority for release because the thinking was that the IdPs which would absolutely need to be brought into 8.3 would be migrated during upgrade instead of cherry-picked from 8.1 Gateways and individually imported.
