Wondering what the status is on the compatibility of Ignition 8 with mysql 8. I installed both and Ignition is saying the driver files are missing. Are these suppose to be working now or are we still required to get an updated JDBC driver from mysql?

You have to install the MySQL JDBC drivers yourself. The license prevents us from distributing them (always has, we’re just now compliant).
