We are excited to announce that as of the 8.1.25 release, Ignition will have support for IEC 61850 devices that support the MMS protocol. The driver leverages the Triangle Microworks 61850 library for most of the heavy lifting and supports the following:

General Features:

1. SCD file support
2. Quality and Timestamp attributes are applied to the related value attributes\*
3. Support for Windows and Linux x64 OSs only (no Mac or ARM support)

Reporting Control Blocks (RCB):

1. Automatic handling of enabling and disabling of individual RCBs
2. Handling of buffered and unbuffered reports
3. MMS handling of enabled reporting control blocks (we do not poll)

Data Model:

1. Ability to see the Logical Nodes within the Data Model
2. Subscribing (Polling) to attributes within in the Logical Nodes\*\*

Scripting Features:

1. Ability to retrieve control names from a 61850 device
2. Ability to perform Select, Operate or Cancel operations against controllable data objects with a non `status-only` value set for their control model.
3. Ability to list files available via file transfer (if applicable) from a 61850 device
4. Ability to transfer files to/from a 61850 device from an Ignition Gateway

\* To take full advantage of this, a SCD file needs to be used.
\*\* While we support this, the preferred manner of interacting with these attributes is via Reports.

We appreciate any feedback you may have for this driver, and hope that you find it useful!

Garth

Is there any plan to support ARM in near future?

Looks like it isn't supported by the Triangle Microworks library. So, don't hold your breath.

Good news to hear that they use Triangle Microworks. Very stable implementation.

As there is no separate item in the price list of the Inductive Automation Page, I believe it includes as a new driver for Platform Pricing($1000) with no additional cost.

You are correct, there will be no additional cost for the 61850 driver and it is included in the pricing of the platform.

ARM support is something we would like to support some day, but I wouldn’t expect it any time soon.

Dear Sir,
Does newest version of Ignition support IEC 60870-5-104 Slave?

No, this thread was about IEC 61850, there is no driver for IEC 60870 on the roadmap right now.

So, if we buy Ignition for our substation, then which solution will you suggest for using IEC-104 slave to transfer the data to the control center?

Kepware is known to support it. That is probably your best bet for now.

I currently have an edge server under Ignition, and I am trying to connect approximately 260 IEC 61850 relays registered on the edge server to the Ignition server.

I used a CID file instead of the SCD file when registering the IEC 61850 relay devices on the edge server. I would like to know the difference between downloading the SCD file and downloading the CID file when adding the device.

As mentioned, I would like to know if registering tags on the Ignition server and receiving them from the edge server is the optimized method, or if it is better to register the tags on the edge server and then retrieve them from Ignition using the remote tag provider.

Thank you very much for your response.

@WOOSEUNG_KIM , you have posted a variant of this question on three topics. This is [against this forum's rules](https://forum.inductiveautomation.com/faq). If you don't get an answer in a few _ **days** _, it is appropriate to add a comment to an original topic as a "ping" for attention. I have combined them here:

> We are currently reading data from an IEC 61850 relay through the edge server. The CID file is registered on the edge, and the tags are registered on the Ignition server without being registered on the edge server. I would like to know the differences between this configuration and registering the tags on the edge server and then setting up the Ignition server with a remote tag provider.

Hi Garth. Please give me example full script for download any comtrade files (\*.cfg and \*.dat) from any IED. It will be great if I can download comtrade files with script when any tag are changed. Thx

So I thought this got added as part of the [IEC 61850 Scripting Demonstration Ignition Exchange project](https://inductiveautomation.com/exchange/2437/overview) training has made available, but I think they cut it because it is a bit convoluted.

This is a Perspective view that provides working examples of the following functions in Ignition:

- [system.iec61850.listFiles](https://www.docs.inductiveautomation.com/docs/8.1/appendix/scripting-functions/system-iec61850/system-iec61850-listFiles)
- [system.iec61850.readFile](https://www.docs.inductiveautomation.com/docs/8.1/appendix/scripting-functions/system-iec61850/system-iec61850-readFile)
- [system.iec61850.writeFile](https://www.docs.inductiveautomation.com/docs/8.1/appendix/scripting-functions/system-iec61850/system-iec61850-writeFile)

While I have tested that it works against my own devices, it is something that should be used as tool to understand how things can be chained together to do what you ultimately want to do.
