I'm new to Ignition and am currently attempting to edit a running program. I have a string input that is functioning within the project; however, when I go to configure the tag binding, I cannot find the appropriate tag path. I'm unsure how it is working.

Welcome to the forums. Before someone helps you.... in the meantime, could you edit your post and put the context in the body of the topic instead of the title? It's good forum manners

the tag seems to be in “parent.custom.value”. This means that you need to ge to the parent container (probably the rectangle with the header “Part” in your screenshot. You can easily see the parent in the treeview on the left side in the designer

Since the binding type is `Property` like @calimero100582 was mentioning, when you click the `Tag` binding type on the left side of the GUI, it is blank because you are changing the binding type from one to another.

Continuing the discussion from [No tag in tag binding then how its worki](https://forum.inductiveautomation.com/t/no-tag-in-tag-binding-then-how-its-working/112075)

Not able to understand still. Not sure what parent container means.

On the left side of the Designer (by default) there is the project browser. Perspective Views are shown here. If you click on the View in the project browser that you are currently in, you will see the View's properties, position data, **custom properties** , and meta data.

I recommend looking at [Views in Perspective | Ignition User Manual](https://docs.inductiveautomation.com/docs/8.1/ignition-modules/perspective/views-in-perspective) and also beginning Inductive University's courses to learn Ignition.

[Inductive University](https://inductiveuniversity.com/) covers the core concepts of how to develop with Ignition. It is completely _ **free** _ and can track your learning progress.

It is highly recommended for new users to start there.
