I am working on a project for a college that is wanting to use ignition as the HMI for their labs. The way that their lab is setup is that they are using Emulate 500 instead of a physical PLC so I need to get an OPC-DA connection setup between emulate and Ignition. I setup the OPC Connection in RS Linx and verified that it works by reading values using MatrikonOPC Explorer. The issue that I am running into is in the ignition gateway I can see the tags but I cannot read or write any values and get this when I try to read from the OPC Quick Client. Has anyone else encountered this and found a solution?

Tip: resize the windows before screen grab and crop afterwards. The second one is 90% white and can't be read without click and pan.

Try reading through this. This thread isn't using OPC-DA, but instead doing a direct connection to the emulator from Ignition if that's all you're really needing.

> For several years I have struggled with Ignition OPC connections to Rockwell Emulate. After several posts to this forum, I do not see any step-by-step method to make this work. I want to know the sure method from start to finish, beginning with the OPC Connection to the Device Connection. If it exists, I haven't found it. My current application is local in a Win10 machine, but it would be nice to know steps for a remote (gateway and Emulate on different machines) as well. Any help?

Unfortunately, the OP is talking about Emulate500, not Emulate5000.

Yeah this is with Emulate 500. The connection to Ignition is there it shows that the OPC-DA COM Connection is Connected and the tags from the emulated PLC are all visable in the OPC Quick Client it just cannot read or write any values using Ignition.

But for some reason it is saying that the quality is Bad\_NotConnected during a read

and with autodetect turned off I get Write Failed: Bad\_NotConnected

I found an old thread that may or may not be helpful.

[OPC-DA to RSLinx Classic (Emulated PLC) - General Discussion - Inductive Automation Forum](https://forum.inductiveautomation.com/t/opc-da-to-rslinx-classic-emulated-plc/11667)

The piece that stuck out to me was in step 1 set the default authentication level to default. On my computer that setting is set to connect. I’m very unfamiliar with OPC-DA, but I am wondering if having that setting set to connect allows the connection but not read/write operations.

So I found this video on YouTube that basically walks you through those exact steps for a local setup and after doing the configuration in the System Components window that he shows (and your thread talks about some of it) it is finally letting me read and write to the tags.
