# Outgoing Gateway Network Connection Error

Hello, everyone. I ran into an issue while trying to create an ‘outgoing’ Gateway Network connection. The remote gateway gets stuck in an ‘initializing’ loop, while my local machine connection status remains ‘FAULTED.’ When I hover over the ‘FAULTED’ text, the window reads “Remote gateway requires Java serialization, but Java serialization is disabled on this gateway. Connection is being aborted.” Any help/info related to this error message is greatly appreciated. \*\*local machine running v8.3.0, remote machine running 8.1.32\*\*

For 8.3.x gateways to talk to 8.1.x gateways, the 8.3.x gateway needs to allow java serialization. It is a setting in the GAN setup on 8.3.

(Java serialization is considered inherently insecure, and IA is trying to get away from it.)
