Hey, I have a problem regarding the login when trying to connect to my gateway. SOmetimes when trying to connect the password does not work so I have to reset the password evertime it happens. It is like the gateway goes back to some older configuration but the strnage thing is that old passwords does not work either so i cabt log on until i reset the password to work for some time. Then I get the same problem later again. I have redundancy and trial but inte inductive university the example is shown with trial and the instructos doesnt mention anything about that! I’m using version 8.3.3 if it helps

Password reset creates a **temporary** user source and Identity Provider. You must follow up after that to fix the **original** auth configuration, put it back in service, and delete the temporary parts.

If you put the original auth config back in service without fixing it, _ **of course** _ you lose access.

On the gateway go to Config → Security → General. There you will see the `System Identity Provider` this is the User source that the gateway uses to validate you when logging into the gateway page. If you have not changed anything it maybe default but it may not be.

When you log in using the reset method, you should go to whatever user source is being referenced here and go reset the password for an administrator (Or whomever is allowed to log in to your gateway - this is on the same security→ general page under `Gateway Config Permissions`) and reset one of their passwords so you know it. Depending on the user source style if its internal you can do it right through the gateway, if its a db you will need to run a query, if its AD you will need to do it through the active directory.

The way you are doing it is a temporary user account only made so that you can go do what I just described so that you can log in the correct way. Then go try and login to your gateway using this user. You sholudn’t need to be resetting your gateway password anymore after this.

No, after password reset, the system auth points at the temporary source. The user must **fix** the original, then **change** the system auth to point to the original. **Then** they can delete the temporaries.

Yup missed that crucial detail. I haven’t had to do this in a long time.

Ignore that part about looking at what its pointing at now. Decide what user source it _should_ point to, find an admin user there, reset the password to something you know, and then change the `System Identity Provider` to that user source.

It is explained succinctly in the Docs, IMO
