I have been researching into this and I cant find a solution. Perhaps I haven’t research enough.

Basically, I want to periodically ping my motor controllers (VFDs) and have some sort of green or red display on my screen so I know if the controller has tripped. I just have 2 controllers, and we have a very small setup. Thanks in advance for any tips or advice!

This thread has some good solutions:

> From [Vince’s ping question](http://forum.inductiveautomation.com/t/script-to-ping-computer/16612) I have tested the Python script below and it works well. import os print '192.168.1.1 ', os.system(“ping -n 1 -w 1000 192.168.3.1”) == 0 It’s running on a Windows host so “-n 1” limits it to one ping rather than the default of four -w 1000 times it out after 1000 ms in the event of no answer. Question: How can I use this to update an indicator status to populate a form with a hundred devices to test? ( ) 10.99.100.1 Good. (X) 10.99.100.2 No response ( ) 10.99…

Thanks for the link to my answer. I think it may have been bettered by an some additions on the [Ignition Exchange](https://inductiveautomation.com/exchange/). Search for ‘ping’.

I haven’t had a chance to try any of them yet. Let me know how much use they are.

Don’t really know your application, but I use Modbus/Tcp to get various infomation from the Vfd’s that we use. You can get so much more data then just a “Ping” response.
