> The Raspberry Pi 2 (quad-core, 1GB ram) can run the Gateway. I've got it up and running and polling tags.. Its even running MySQL and historizing some tags as well. I've also connected to it from another gateway via OPC-UA, so yeah, its possible nowadays.

Well done kcollins. I found few more interesting links on the web along this line... I think, time has come to take Android and Raspberry Pi OPC UA servers/clients very seriously. Of course, they are running on ARM platform.

An open source and free OPC UA:

I think, IA must make it’s “ARM platform OPC UA client/server code” as open source and publish the source code on GitHUb. IA must encourage developers to use the Ignition SDK to build communication drivers on ARM/Android/Raspberry OPC UA platform. This will enable RTU manufacturers to have OEM agreement and embed Ignition OPC UA client/server in their products. Ignition SCADA has the potential to become IoT SCADA for Smart City and very large infrastructure management projects.

Now that the Raspberry Pi 3 is out, do you have refreshed enthusiasm for this project? We might have a project somewhere down the road where a Raspberry Pi OPC-UA server would be useful.
