You can access the `MetricRegistry`:

My questions are aimed at a use case during evaluation of certain projects, during development and testing. The configurations for which metrics are kept, which are dropped, and what retention sizes should be used, will vary depending on the environment and scale. Regarding histogram buckets, it appears the internal gateway metrics are using a default exponential bucket,…

Which is a class directly from a third party library.
You could ask it for the set of gauges it contains, which will return a dictionary:

> **[MetricRegistry - metrics-core 4.0.3 javadoc](https://www.javadoc.io/doc/io.dropwizard.metrics/metrics-core/4.0.3/com/codahale/metrics/MetricRegistry.html)**

The Guage object you get from that dictionary (at the `ClockDriftDetector.driftGauge` key) will have a `getValue` method: [Gauge - metrics-core 4.0.3 javadoc](https://www.javadoc.io/doc/io.dropwizard.metrics/metrics-core/4.0.3/com/codahale/metrics/Gauge.html)

So it would look something like:

```python
from com.inductiveautomation.ignition.gateway import IgnitionGateway
__gateway = IgnitionGateway.get()
__metrics =__ gateway.metricRegistry
__driftGauge =__ metrics.gauges["ClockDriftDetector.driftGauge"]
def getDriftValue():
	return __driftGauge.value
```
