# Restarting Ignition Gateway

I am debugging a faulty database connection and it has been recommended that I restart the Ignition gateway.

Can I do this without losing tag data? I have created a backup of my Gateway just in case.

Is this the correct command for a Windows system?

```python
gwcmd.bat -r

```

You won't lose any tag configurations, but any Vision clients/Perspective sessions using those tags for display will error while the gateway restarts. If your database is for tag history, you'll also have a history gap for this period.

Your command looks right, though you might need `.\gwcmd.bat -r` depending if you're using powershell vs command prompt (I think?)

You can restart the service in services.msc since it's a windows system.
