# SC Charts

**Streamline Control** is excited to release `SC Charts`, an advanced trending module for Ignition's Perspective platform.

These charts are designed to handle large datasets efficiently, offering smooth rendering and real-time updates for timely decision-making. The visuals are dynamic and customizable, making data interpretation easier and more engaging. Experience enhanced performance, with advanced features that support complex overlays, customizable gradients, and powerful drawing tools.

### Design Philosophy

Properties were constructed alongside our internal integrators to allow users to create trends with a familiar interface while having the potential to scale features to meet client needs. The goal of the chart is to be able to meet as many requirements as possible without the need to develop multiple components.

There are many features in our roadmap which have not made this first release but we are excited to continue to improve this module to meet and exceed our clients expectations as well as yours.

### Performance

The video below demonstrates the rendering of two pens with randomized data of over 100,000 rows as well as the incremental generation from 0 to 100,000 rows for two pens with complete resolution.

### Drawing Tools + Overlay

Use Ignition events and two-way properties to implement custom functionality for annotations, measurement lines, and range brushes to ensure your charts meet all your project requirements.

`SC Charts` allows the developer to specify multiple data sources on the same graph with a variable number of both x- and y-axes. This can be leveraged to compare real-time and historical data on the same graph.

Is the core of this based on SciCharts?

Yes it is (good eye)! We are hoping to integrate most of the chart types from SciCharts (including 3D and by popularity). The SciChart properties are quite complex and naming is not always intuitive especially when using the designer model so this is not a one-for-one implementation, it is an "ignitionified" take on the library where we have built on top of its existing infrastructure.

How does that work with the licensing? Are the licenses only needed to develop against it, or do end users need to license the SciChart.js package on a subscription? (Just asking since I'm sure it will come up)

Great question! We have worked with SciCharts directly and maintain a license agreement with them so there is no charge to the end-user **with SciChart.** There is however a licensing fee to run the module without a time limit in Ignition which is purchased through us directly. The module is free for **Ignition Maker Edition** and can be developed against using a 2-hour trial similar to other modules.

Haha yeup, I figured you had! I have also had the pleasure of looking at many many charting libraries 🙂

### Version 1.1.1 - Feature Highlight

#### Append Mode

New data mode that appends data from the dataset on every update to reduce the traffic over the Ignition websocket where required. Previously data from the dataset replaced all data on the chart; this functionality is maintained through the default Replace mode.

#### Axes

- New read-only `currentMin`and `currentMax` axis range properties are updated when the range changes as a result of panning or zooming or when the extents change due to auto-ranging.
- Default property values enable adding an axis with a subset of axis properties.

#### Performance

- Update pens and axes without creating new ones where possible.
- Store pen data and use it to rebuild the series if new axes or pens were created.
- Improved context rendering for WASM backend in Firefox.

See the release [notes](https://docs.streamlinecontrol.com/books/sc-charts/page/sc-charts-111)for more information on new features and fixes.

**Exchange Resource: [SC Charts Boost](https://inductiveautomation.com/exchange/2768/overview)**

This resource is intended to speed up integration of the SC Charts module's Chart 2D component for a chart which users can configure in a Perspective session. It includes a date range selector, historical tag browser, and configuration panel to modify axis, pen, and chart properties. The configuration panel's pen tab doubles as a legend. Component events are used to add text to a custom annotation and display the difference and slope for a measurement. An Ignition table component is configured to display statistics based on a range brush.

Hi,

I have a question. I want to create a table for my Chart2D, similar to the Statistics table included with the Chart Boost. I want my table to have these columns for the pens:

- Current Value
- X Trace
In the Chart2D properties I was sad to see that for the interaction/xTrace, the trace instances are not among its properties. I was hoping to see them there since the range instances are part of the properties of rangeBrush.

Hello! Yes it has been tested against Ignition 8.3 but the 8.3 download is not yet publically available.
