I've got this error “Launch client jar Invalid” too and the solution from [83641](https://forum.inductiveautomation.com/t/designer-and-persective-workstation-apps-not-running-on-linux/83641) didn't help.

I tried starting the Designer like this:

```python
cd ~/.local/share/applications/app
~/.local/share/applications/runtime/bin/java -jar launcher-designer-linux.jar
```

and noticed that permissions were missing for ~/.ignition/

So the problem was fixed with this command:
`sudo chown -R $USER:$USER ~/.ignition/`
