Follow the steps described here:

Can anyone launch in the terminal and provide the standard output here? to do this: after trying to launch the designer, go to ~/.ignition/clientlauncher-data/designerlauncher.log and look for the actual launch command. It should start with Starting Java with the following parameters: Copy and paste that command into a terminal and execute it. grab the output to the terminal during the launch and at the hangup and either post it here or DM it to me Thanks, Jonathan C

To get an actual useful error message/stacktrace and see where the launch is failing. Redirect the command line output to a file and post it here if you're not sure what you're looking at.
