I'm interested in learning about Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) while using a Linux-based environment. Many PLC training materials and software tools seem to focus on Windows, so I'm looking for resources, simulators, development platforms, and tutorials that are compatible with Linux.

Whether the recommendations include open-source PLC software, industrial automation projects, online courses, or practical exercises, I'd appreciate any guidance that can help build both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience with PLC programming on Linux systems.

What is the best resource for simulating/learning PLCs on linux for little to no cost? There are two things that really bug me; 1. Paywalls and 2. Windows-Only applications
