# Why would ignition not activate a license

If all 9 sites use the same cd key then it’s possible your license was updated to 8.x for some reason. At this point we’re just speculating and you need to resolve this with support or sales who have the tools to look into and modify your license if necessary.

Upgrading the software to version 8 is the fix for this issue.
