Prefix/suffix must be configured on the scanner, yes, but you also have to define them on the component as well, which is what I was referring to.

Sounds like you are trying to use the scan barcode action. This is used when you do not have a built-in scanning engine, so you use the camera.
For the scanning engine, use the barcode scanner input component setup with prefix/suffix framing. Then on the device's scanner configuration app, add the prefix/suffix characters and set the data output to key events.
