Connecting to USB serial device

Yes, will actually be able to eliminate the PLC in this application since, for other reasons, it's devolved to just handling the serial connection to the measurement device.

oops, edited that to say "middle PC", i.e. the new Onlogic PC.

Exactly. I have a few other apps that talk JSON strings via the generic OPC TCP driver. I will report back if I get it working as it's a possible solution where folks would like to use Edge+Serial but for other reasons like historian or database are limited.

You may have to use PopOS as the last time I tried using Ubuntu with Perspective, the on screen keyboard wouldn't work reliably, but PopOS worked well.

For users like us. For dedicated HMI deployments, I generally recommend Xubuntu or another XFCE desktop-based distro. LIghtest weight for thin clients, and simplest for overriding the desktop session for an unbreakable kiosk workload. (Though I haven't tried with Perspective yet, just Vision. I don't use or recommend Perspective for HMI replacements.)

Thanks for the heads up. This particular application requires enough input that we'll probably have an attached keyboard/mouse but I have others where that's not the case.

Always more options to try than time. Not familiar with the Xubuntu distro but did a quick search and it sounds promising for a stable kiosk. I've settled on keeping everything here based on Perspective for a few reasons but, yes, it's forced some creative work arounds. Thanks for all the input.
