Active Item in Perspective Menu Tree

Is there a way to set up an element state for the Menu Tree when that window is in focus? I would like to have 3 element states, inactive, hover, and active similar to this screenshot. [58%20PM] But the “active” element state in the style class only works when the menu link is actively being clicked on, then it goes back to an inactive state. Is there a different element state I need to be using?

I have created a menu tree and linked the items of the menu tree to target pages in my perspective project and it is working fine.
I applied an element state active on the menu tree and expects the text of the item to remain on “#CCFFFF” when the item is clicked but the link goes back to its white default color after the page has loaded.
I would appreciate if the selected item sticks to a particular color when page is active and goes back to its default white color when another item is clicked.

I hope this is achievable?
