I am also able to replicate this in 8.1.4
Also, doesn’t matter if the hex is upper or lower case.
If I bind a color property to the custom property it works properly, but still does not show the color picker next to the custom property.

I think the color treatment is dictated by the property ‘schema’, which is the underlying meta-layer that attempts to marshal properties into the right shape. We’ve got a somewhat theoretical feature ticket planned that will expose some way to provide schemas to custom properties on a view - which would allow you (as the view designer) to “restrict” the input and output types.
Thanks @PGriffith
@PGriffith is there any movement on the feature ticket?
No movement to report.
what about now?
Not yet.
And now? I assume this will be available for session custom props too? maybe in 8.3?
Don't expect this in 8.3.0.
So, not in 8.3.0, but possible in a later 8.3 release?
Is this timeline still accurate?
Yes, exactly.
That's the current plan, plus/minus a month or so. Ultimately, it'll be available when it's ready.
Such optimism!
