Voice Actors - Ignition University Videos

Most likely, Travis.
As it turns out, asking Travis to record every IU video is not a scalable solution to the problem

Hi Doug,
I manage the Inductive University team, and I can assure you that no IU videos are narrated by AI. Inductive University is entirely produced by three full-time Inductive Automation employees. There are absolutely no plans to replace any of our team with AI voices in the future, either. In fact, I've been looking at expanding the team by hiring more (human) video producers to keep up with the vast amount of videos that need updating regularly and free up some time to meet the demand for courses that cover more advanced topics.

Something that we are striving to do as a team is to hit the right balance between informative and engaging, while also speaking at a steady pace and enunciating clearly. We may sometimes miss the mark, and I'd be happy to discuss your feedback with you personally to see how we can improve. I'll DM you shortly to dig deeper into specific areas of concern.

Narrating a video and sounding "natural" is incredibly hard, and I am very proud of the work my team has done. There is exactly one video that I contributed narration to (not in the Inductive University library, so no need to look that one up) and I struggled with talking too fast, stumbling over words I say every day in normal conversation without a problem, and avoiding "filler" words. I didn't tally up the number of expletives I had to cut out each time I messed up and had to start over  All that to say for all the difficulties that come with doing this type of work, we would never jeopardize the trust of our audience by outsourcing any of it to AI.

I know exactly what you mean. Filming responses to interview questions, I forgot my name in at least 3 takes :joy: it was an experience at least. Something about a microphone and a camera just switches your brain off. I don't know how actors/actresses do it

Someone once asked me if I would ever release a blooper reel of my videos. I quickly declined because I get way to mad at myself for messing up a take.

My blooper reel did get released; they called it a different name though, they called it the final cut

Ive had pretty good experience with the inductive automation videos. Ive been watching some training on AWS cloud and something is off on them. I dont know if its a recording thing, or if its AI voice over or if the audio and video are out of sync a tiny bit, but something just doesnt seem right with them. If a giant company like Amazon cant get it right I think Inductive University is doing pretty good.

Everything you’ve mentioned is absolutely wonderful to hear! I agree that it can be very hard to sound natural and professional at the same time. Glad to hear IA is keeping things human!!
