I'm using custom fonts in my Vision screens. When I deploy the screens, do I need to install these fonts on the gateway machine, or on the machines running the Designer and Vision Client?

Yeah, you need to install them on each machine that will run the Vision Client or Designer.

How to embed custom fonts in perspective client Ignition Early Access

Fonts should not be referenced directly like that, relying on system level fonts. The proper way to use fonts in Perspective is to embed them as resources - look at <gateway directory>/data/modules/com.inductiveautomation.perspective/ - there is a fonts/ directory, and a themes/ directory.
