8.0 Edge to 7.9 Gateway

I am about to develop a new Edge project as a local HMI for a system at a remote office. Is there any issue with installing 8.0 Edge at the new location to communicate with a 7.9.10 Gateway?

I am having tag conversion issues that is delaying upgrading our 7.9.10 server to 8, but I would like to develop the Edge project in the latest version. I just want to make sure I’m not going to run into any compatibility issues.

Thanks for any advice.

If they are connected over the gateway network, then things like reading and writing tags should work. Ignition 8 uses a translation layer for tags that can work with 7.9 gateways. Keep in mind that you cannot remotely edit tags between 7.9 and 8.0. Things like transferring projects via EAM definitely won’t work between 7.9 and 8.0. Your best bet is to temporarily set up a 7.9 gateway and an 8.0 gateway and do some testing with anything that you want to use on your real project.
