8.3 Early Access Deployables

Deployables--installers, modules, and launchers--will be served up from files.inductiveautomation.com starting Monday, July 29 via another post in this thread on or by that day.

The post below will be updated with the latest hyperlinks; there will not be a new post every week. So you can just bookmark that post.

This week's EA build is held up a bit due to some big functional and related build changes. We're working on it.

OK, builds are back on track finally. Among other content check out the new Event Stream and Kafka Connector modules above.

Today's build includes the replacement of the legacy Tag Historian module to modern Historian + SQL Historian modules.

Siemens S7 Symbolic Driver out today, if you didn't see it in the 8.3 Early Access Changelogs. It's up there in the list of links.

2 posts were split to a new topic: Web UI Component Type Not Found

Today, cleanup of a handful of existing module names and addition of MariaDB, MSSQL, and PostgreSQL JDBC Driver modules.

The Web Browser module is now part of Vision. So there's one less download link above.

Will the Vision module choke now if the web browser component cannot run? Omitting the web browser module is necessary in v8.1 to run a Vision Client on an RPi or other ARM devices without JxBrowser support. (Graceful fallback would be great.)

Tagging @PGriffith to weigh in on that.

Poking around a little bit in the meantime, excerpting from the ticket.

  1. The Web Browser component must fail gracefully if you are on an unsupported platform, such that any containing window is still openable and editable in the designer

Well, the designer itself won't open on such platforms, so that isn't the right test. It should fail gracefully in Vision clients on unsupported platforms, such that any containing window opens and works, other than the web browser.

With @PGriffith out, I went down a bit of a rabbit hole with this, and I've confirmed through testing that this fails gracefully on unsupported platforms. Clients with windows containing the web browser component open but the web browser component doesn't work, of course. Other windows shouldn't have any issues.

Update of the links post above may be little bit irregular during next week, the one starting Monday, May 12. It should still happen every day but might vary in time as opposed to first thing in the morning Pacific time (UTC-8:00).

Serial Support modules functionality has moved into the core platform.

SECS/GEM Module pulled from the builds about two weeks ago to clear some upstream dependency issues IIUC. It'll be back.

The SECS/GEM Module is back in the build.

The 8.3 Early Access publishing pipeline is now shut down ahead of our 8.3 Public Beta, coming soon.

We're now entering the stabilization phase for 8.3 and retooling our pipelines to publish beta (-beta<n>) builds to the public, very similar to release candidates (-rc<n>).

Watch this space in the coming week for updates.

8.3.0 Beta deployables are now accessible from our Download Ignition page:

We aim to release once a week, give or take. That -beta1 suffix will increment each week accordingly.
