AB Legacy Driver Not Connecting

Hi All

I’ve got a system that is running talking with 2 PLC right now and I am adding one more to the gateway. I am running Ignition 8.1.45 with the AB drivers version 6.1.45.

My PLC is AB L71 running version 17.01. The processor is in slot 2 of the rack with the ENBT in slot 1 of the rack.

I have setup the AB Legacy driver with the IP address of the communication card and set the slot number to 2 where the PLC resides. When I save the configuration I see the driver trying to connect but then it changes to Disconnected. Is there anything else I am missing?

Huh. I didn't think an L7x could run that old of firmware. But anyways:

Look in the gateway logs for connection error messages related to that driver.

When looking at the compatibility of firmware for L7x series, I'm seeing the oldest being v20, so I suspect they're not really on firmware v17.

I've loaded v19 into an L72, but I think that is only possible in an L72.

I am expecting that something in the info the customer provided me is wrong. As I can’t create a new PLC program with an L71 at version 17. If I drop the processor down to a L61 I can create a new program at version 17. I am waiting for the IT team to give me access to the PLC IP address so I can do an upload and see for myself what is running.

My guess is that Rockwell may have officially dropped support for any versions older than v20 now also.

The IA Logix driver has diagnostic tags that will show you the version. (My alternate driver will also show you the version of the ENBT.)

So now I am online with the processor I can see that it is an L61 processor running version 17.3. So I still need to use the AB ControlLogix Legacy Driver. It is in slot 2 and the ENBT is in slot 1 so I don’t think I need to change the driver configuration.

When I go to the Diagnostic and go to log on the gateway I searched my device name and I see nothing in it for the driver I set up. I also filtered by Gateway.OpcConnectionManager but again I see nothing in the log.

When I go to the OPC quick client I can see the device and it is in a state and status of “Connecting” but the connection remains “false”

The OPC Connection Manager loggers would not be helpful. This is a driver. You should search the loggers for "Logix" and turn possibles to DEBUG. Open a support ticket with IA if you need specific guidance.

(IIRC, the legacy drivers do not tag their log entries with the device name--they haven't been touched by IA since before that facility was added to logging infra.)

Are they in slot 1 and 2 or are they in slot 0 and 1?
