I'm trying to setup email notifications for an alarm. I'd like to include a rather verbose explanation of what may be causing the alarm. I'm using Ignition 8.3.
The steps I've taken:
- On the gateway, I've created three rosters: "Me", "MyDepartment", and "Production" to facilitate testing/debugging. I am included in all three.
- I created and configured a "One-Way Email" Alarm Notification profile on the gateway. At some point, I realized that this profile wouldn't allow me to include the verbose explanation. I think this is because I concluded that I needed to setup an alarm pipeline, which requires the standard email notification profile.
- I created a "Standard" email notification profile, so that I could include the verbose explanation. I neglected to configure the SMTP profile.
- I created three alarm notification pipelines--two for testing (Me & MyDepartment rosters) and one for the Production roster. I used the Standard Email notification profile.
- I used the tag editor to create an alarm and specified the pipeline that uses the "MyDepartment" roster.
I simulated a fault, and it seemed to work perfectly. I could see the email recipients in the "To" field. I changed the alarm pipeline to the one that has the "Production" roster.
Shortly thereafter, we had an organic fault condition. I received an email, but it was only addressed to those in my department--not production.
I realized I had not configured the SMTP profile for the standard email notification profile, and did so.
But now I'm rather at a loss as to how the notification system delivered any emails at all. I'd appreciate any feedback on any/all apparent gaps in my understanding, because my confidence level is significantly lower than it was yesterday.
Digging through Ignition's logs remains kind of a bucket-list item for me--please be specific as to which ones I should be looking at, as I've never done this before. I'll start familiarizing myself with these now.
