Alarm Pipeline Email issues

We are attempting to add the email functionality to our gateway. I tested the connection in the 'Email Settings' section and it worked. However when I try to use it on a tag it does not send an email and the logs show this 'The email message will not be sent, the connection cannot be validated.' What am I missing?

There should have been an error in the gateway logs at the same time, can you check the logs and post some more information?

That is the only thing in the logs.

As far as I can tell this means the email profile is in Errored or Unknown state, then...

It is interesting however that the testing works from the gateway without error.
