I’m looking over the Working with Platform Services section of the Programmer’s Guide, specifically the section on Alerting. All content relates to the usage of alerting with tag alarms. I was wondering, could I use the alerting system for other purposes? As an example, I’ll have a handful of configuration data for my module. Could I tie into the alerting system to raise an alert/alarm/whatever when a specific bit of configuration data was changed? Would this be considered a misuse of the alerting system, (assuming it’s possible) … ?
No, certainly not. The alert doesn’t have to be associated with a tag. You can submit anything you want to the bus that Ignition can use.
