Hello,
I have the ignition version 8.1.14 and I am looking to use a bar code scanner to input a code into a text box on the page. I have done some looking around and have found the Barcode Scanner Input tool under the manual. It says it is available on Ignition 8.0.5 but I cannot find it. Does anybody know why?
Also will this tool allow me to take the input of the barcode scanner and display it in a text box?
Many thanks!
The barcode scanner input component is for Perspective module only, it is not available for Vision. Most scanners can operate as a keyboard wedge, so just having a text box in focus, a scan will be typed in the text box. If you want a little more control with better ergonomics you’ll want the Sepasoft Barcode Scanner module.

So, why is it cool to add features to Perspecive, but not Vision? If they want to phase out Vision, get it over with already so I can stop recommending Ignition to customers.
Vision is getting things here and there, and keeps up with java security, but it's got nearly 15 years of history: it's stable.
Vision hasn't needed a dedicated barcode scanner component because Vision can actually open client-side serial ports, and do exotic things with barcode scanners that way (via script).
IA won't phase out Vision until Perspective actually can do everything Vision can do. Which may be never, due to Browser technology security barriers.
You can do that now, if you are so disgusted with IA's development process. You'd be throwing the baby out with the bath water, so to speak, but you do you.
