Best Approach for Integrating Multiple RTSP Cameras into Ignition Perspective

Hi everyone,

I have around 20 to 30 IP cameras that can transmit over RTSP. I can successfully open their RTSP streams in VLC, but I haven’t been able to integrate them into Ignition Perspective. I’m not an expert in this area, so I’d appreciate some guidance.

  1. Direct Integration: Is there a way to directly stream these RTSP feeds into Ignition Perspective? I have tried some methods but haven't had any success.

  2. NVR Requirement: Do I need an NVR or soemthing similar to handle these streams? If so, are there any recommended models that work well with Ignition?

  3. I have a VMware vCenter environment where I could set up a server to convert the streams into a format that Ignition supports (e.g., MJPEG, HLS, WebRTC). Would this be a recommended approach?

  4. Scalability & Maintenance: Since I might need to add more cameras in the future, I’m looking for a solution that is scalable and not a hassle to maintain and is good for performance.

I’d appreciate any suggestions or best practices from those who have implemented a similar setup.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Andres_Gallardo, I'm sure I have used @pturmel's Automation Professionals' Image Streamer Driver Module - #103 by pturmel in the past. However, this has only been for a personal project, not in production.

My module lets Ignition republish RTSP as MJPEG within the gateway, but 20-30 cameras would require a really powerful server.
