[BUG] MS KB4512488 August Monthly Rollup Crashes 7.9.10 on Windows Server 2012

KB41512488 was automatically applied last night and the server rebooted. After that Ignition will not start, windows event logs lists “Incorrect function” with code 7024. I uninstalled the KB and rebooted and Ignition will now start again, but the OS wants to apply that patch…

Any solution/suggestion?

May be worth reaching out to support to see if they can get a faster response.

Also, I can't find anything on that update anywhere, may want to confirm that the number is correct.

It’s for Server 2012, August 2019 cumulative.

We have been trying to replicate this internally and have not been successful. We have tried the following:

  • 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Ignition
  • Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Edition
  • Java 8 Version 202 (x86/x64)

We started with a system running the above with the Ignition 7.x Demo Gateway Backup, applied all fixes except the one with the issue and confirmed everything was working as intended. We then applied kb4512512 and confirmed that that there weren’t any startup issues.

At this point I would recommend contacting support as it is likely something specific to the environment. Things we would need to be looking at:

  • Differences in the data/ignition.conf file
  • Differences in Java/Windows versions than the tests we ran
  • 3rd party modules that might be installed within Ignition
  • 3rd party software on the server itself
