My site is interested in using Ignition for a Building Management System (BMS). This is for an industrial factory.
In the past I’ve only worked on industrial automation, traditional SCADA, PLC, so BMS is new to me. We want to develop this in-house
so that eliminates the option of using BMS specific controllers/software solutions since these are delivered as 'turn-key' solutions for the most part
as far as i know.
We need a web platform (ignition perspective) to view and control heaters, lights, and chillers. We also need to integrate existing
temp/humidity sensors that currently send their data to IO link master units throughout the buildings so that this data can be viewed in Ignition.
On the controller side, I'm considering Siemens, but since their BMS specific PXC controllers are not an option, would their process automation, S7 series PLCs
be a good option here? I believe Siemens offer a Bacnet module and IO link module which would allow the S7 to communicate with devices that use bacnet/existing IO link devices. Again, because I don't have BMS specific experience I'm wondering if there are some things I'm not aware of that I should be taking
into consideration.
Let me know your general thoughts. Thanks.
