Can't send email via Ignition

Hello everyone,

Can somebody explain to me, please, why this isn’t working. I just can’t send an Email using Ignition.

bodyMessage = “File sent”
recipients = [“afal.service@gmail.com”]
myuser = "afal.service@gmail.com"
mypass = “pass”
system.net.sendEmail(smtp=“smtp.gmail.com:587:tls”, fromAddr="afal.service@gmail.com", subject=“Read”, body=bodyMessage, html=0, to=recipients, username=myuser, password=mypass)

The console displays some of the following errors:
com.inductiveautomation.ignition.client.gateway_interface.GatewayException: com.inductiveautomation.ignition.client.gateway_interface.GatewayException: Error sending email.

Am I missing something?

You’ll need to look at the full text of the error in the gateway console, but it’s almost certainly Gmail’s security settings. You have to go in and manually “allow access from less secure apps” to use third party SMTP servers with Gmail.

Thank you so much for your reply. I’ve tried to change these settings with no luck; I still can’t send an Email using the sendEmail function or the smtplib from Python.

I’ve tried to change the secure settings and change the smtp service.
Please, I would appreciate your help.

Based on inspecting your error, it looks like it is failing to connect to smtp.gmail.com on port 25 (which is the default non-secure SMTP port)… it looks like you’re specifying it correctly according to the documentation, but the gw logs seem to indicate that it is still trying to use port 25.
