Changing redundant server when master has failed

The machine that was running as the Ignition Master gateway has failed. Ignition will not run on the machine.

Our redundant server is up and running, but we cannot change the configuration to set the redundant server as the master server, since the master is inaccessible. Without the master, I cannot launch designer, or make any configuration changes.

How can we switch the redundant server to the master if the original master is inaccessible?

Dan

Hi,

You can simply go into the redundancy settings on the backup machine, and change it from “backup” to “master” (or “independent”). Then you’ll be able to launch the designer and work with it as normal.

When you get another machine, you could just leave this one as master, and make the new one a new backup.

Regards,

Sorry to resurrect this thread, is this still good advice in 2023?

We have a redundant pair tag gateway that a few other gateways consume the tag provider from.

If we have a critical failure of our Master gateway, can we change the role of the Backup gateway to Master? I know redundancy changes sometimes cause a reboot. Is this one of those cases?

Pretty sure, yes, you will need to restart to change roles.
