Cloud edition loses license

The cloud edition is licensed via Azure (et al). You subscribe to a resource that is a Linux VM with a cloud gateway. Naturally, you will want to maintain this by getting security updates and updating the gateway to the latest LTS. This has been working for us for some time, but our recent update (sudo apt update/upgrade) ended up with NO LICENSE after restarting. Is there a way to remedy this without reverting to the original image?

I believe you are running into IGN-16216. If you just updated to 8.3.6 you will need to update to 8.3.7 to fix this issue. If you just updated to 8.1.53 you can update to 8.1.54-RC1. Otherwise I'd recommend reaching out to Support to assist.

It was the OS update that caused the issue. Rebooted a couple times to see if it would fix itself. We updated 8.1.50->8.1.52 immediately afterward, but it did not resolve anything. We'll reach out to support tomorrow and keep the 8.1.54-RC1 in mind.
