Connecting Ignition 8.1 To Ignition 7.9

Is there a way to connect an Ignition 7.9 gateway and an Ignition 8.1 gateway so that they can share tags? There are workarounds to this that would work such as using a broker, but is there a way to directly connect the two gateways without another program? As this is something we are planning to use for development, keeping the amount of software required to a minimum is ideal. The reason we need this is explained below but isn't entirely relevant.

We are trying to get a connection working between Ignition 8.1 and RSEmulate. We have found the solution to connect Ignition 7.9 to RSEmulate by using Factory Talk Linx Gateway, but this doesn't work with Ignition 8.1. (This link shows that process: Ignition Tips, Tricks, and Cheats (godboutpcs.com))

Up to date 7.9.X and 8.1.X gateways are able to share remote tag providers across the gateway network. You cannot edit tags across major versions, but you can read and write.

Hi Paul, What about getting alarm query information? We have been able to read and write to tags but currently unable to get remote alarms. Error logs point to "this.subscribedprovider" is null

Reboot of the 8.1 Server fixed this issue.
