Database Faulted

Over the weekend our clients IT department updated the SQL server that we use for ignition. When I came in this morning I got the following error
“The connection to the host {server name}, named instance {server name} failed. Error: “java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Receive timed out”. Verify the server and instance names and check that no firewall is blocking UDP traffic to port 1434. For SQL Server 2005 or later, verify that the SQL Server Browser Service is running on the host.”
I went into my connections page, clicked edit for this server, scrolled down and click save with out changing anything, and the server reconnected.
In my mind ignition would have/should have continued to attempt a connection. Instead it appears that is faulted and quit trying. Is this the case? Is there a setting somewhere to force it to continue to attempt reconnect?
