Disable Thumbnail Image Creating in Designer

Version: Ignition 8.3.x

Is it possible to disable thumbnail references from being saved in the designer?

I am able to delete the the thumbnail references using scripting, but it would easier if the thumbnail references are never created/saved.

I've never heard of a way to do this, but is there some reason you're trying to disable them? I've always liked having them just for the ease of hovering screens to see what they are before opening them, or when using Kindling to see the thumbnails without having to restore the project to a gateway.

No, there's no way to opt out of the thumbnails.

I don’t disagree that they are useful in most instances but I want to avoid tracking/storing them in a repository.

You can remove them/not VCS them, and while you'll then end up with nuisance conflicts on the resource.json it won't do any harm. May not be worth the hassle though.

For maximum headache - in theory, you could remove them and then recalculate your resource's signature to update the last modification signature attribute, so we don't balk at the update and think it's invalid. Something something, git precommit?
Prior art:

But we're still going to keep writing them out as you make edits in the designer, so probably not worth it.
