Edge Historian Synchronization

I'm working on my first project with Ignition, specifically using an Edge gateway in version 8.1, which I plan to install at a remote site. This site will connect to the main plant, where we have an Ignition gateway running version 7.6.6. I intend to create a gateway network to connect the Edge gateway's tags and historian to the main Ignition gateway.

I have a couple of questions regarding this setup:

  1. Data Synchronization Compatibility: Given that my main Ignition gateway is running an older version (7.6.6), while the Edge gateway is on the latest version (8.1), will data synchronization work effectively? I prefer to maintain the latest version on the Edge gateway because it offers 35 days of historian backup, compared to just 7 days with the older versions.
  2. Data Utilization in the Main Gateway: Once the gateways are connected and the Edge history data is stored in the main gateway, is it possible to plot trends or utilize this data within the main gateway? Or is the data only stored directly in the database without being accessible for trend analysis or other uses within the main gateway?

I would appreciate any insights or recommendations on these points.

There is no Gateway Network in Ignition 7.6.

Thanks for the response. Given that my main Ignition gateway is running version 7.6.6, what would be the best approach to connect my Edge gateway tags, alarms, and trend history in this situation?

The best thing you could do is upgrade to 8.1.

You might be able to get an OPC UA connection from the main gateway to the Edge gateway, but that's only going to get you real time tag/device values from the Edge gateway. I'm not sure if there's a way to get alarm and history synced up to such an old version.
