Hello. I am attempting to send emails to a phone number on several different Ignition gateways. Two of the gateways have very similar settings and will both send emails to my work email address, but only one of the two will send an email to my phone number. The working gateway is version 8.1.17 and the one that does not send emails to text is 8.1.19. Any suggestions for troubleshooting?
Are they both using the same SMTP server, user, password, from address, to address, etc?
The delivery to SMS when you do email-to-SMS is entirely on the carrier to implement. It's just an email from our side.
Same to address for email and text (same carrier), different SMPT server, user, password, and from address. The fact that both send out a test email to a single gmail account, but only one sends an email to a single verizon phone number, is throwing me for a loop.
Wondering if there is configuration in the SMTP server itself not on the gateway webpage that impacts this. Have also heard that using Google vs. sendgrid for an SMTP service can make a difference.
Why? Mail servers have individual reputations scattered about the anti-spam ecosystem, so one can be blacklisted for some destinations independently of others.
You need to look at each mail server's own log files to see what is going wrong. It is completely out of Ignition's hands once the first-hop mailserver accepts the email.
my understanding is that the carriers are cracking down on email to text and that you should use a service like twilio which you can register your use case for a campaign to allow texting messages like this. Perhaps you should look at doing this because eventually they will shut you down.
Even using Twilio is getting difficult with the new 10DLC restrictions/registration that is required.
