Error when trying to save file

I am receiving this error when I am trying to save to a folder. I’m getting “File path _____ cannot be converted to a valid file path”. I think I should have permission to write to this folder.

In what scope are you executing the code? If it’s in a gateway scope (on a tag change or gateway event), then the path should be reachable on the gateway as the user executing the Ignition service. If it’s executed in a client scope, it should be reachable from the client.

Can you show the code you’re running? And are you able to make a minimal example of code that works and one of code that doesn’t work?

This is the code that I’m running curently. The top works, but the bottom does not. I am attempting to execute the code via a button in a window and also in a gateway event script

If the top one works, but the bottom one doesn’t it must be that the path isn’t reachable. You can try running the Ignition service under a different user, or give enough access rights to the wanted path.

Windows shared directories are always annoying to me. Sometimes they stop working for no apparent reason. So perhaps it’s better to invest in something more robust, like email or ftp.

You also need to double your backslashes in string constants. Try printing settings_g['path'] to see what you really have there. Most filesystem operations in java/jython will auto-convert forward slashes to backslashes where needed, allowing you to use forward slashes in paths on all platforms. Greatly simplifies such problems.

Also note that a gateway event script will be run under the gateway service’s user, which likely will not have access to network drive letters. There are settings you can use in ignition.conf to set up drive letters in the gateway service’s environment, so long as the gateway server user has the appropriate network permissions.
